'Damon is a perfectionist and has a wealth of knowledge and experience'
You’ve found it. The perfect boat for you and the family. It ticks all the boxes; the Mrs is happy and so are the kids. Your offer is pending subject to the mechanical inspection and then once the mechanic gives you the all-clear, you are out the heads, smashing straight into it to get to Rotto by sunset. Now to find a half-decent marine mechanic who will give you an honest opinion of the engines and not try to pull the wool over your eyes.
Having carried out over 250 pre purchase inspections, we understand the value that the engines, generators, and gearboxes bring to the vessel overall. Our thorough and comprehensive mechanical inspections are carried out by Damon himself, providing an impartial and objective assessment of the visual and working components of the engine.
There are 3 stages to the inspection; the cold start checks, the underwater gear and the sea trial. All 3 are imperative to report on the mechanics of the vessel. Upon completion, a report is issued that lists and identifies the condition of all serviceable items and lists any issues that have arisen throughout the inspection. Corresponding photos of any items of concern that require repair or replacement are also provided for your peace of mind and clarity.
Whilst sourcing the previous service history does assist with knowing what repairs may have taken place, it does not reflect the upcoming maintenance or reports on any issues that may have surfaced since the last service. As part of the service that is provided with the mechanical inspection, Damon also prepares a recommended maintenance schedule for future preventative maintenance with indicative pricing.
We do not carry out inspections on engines that we are not familiar or experienced with. Unfortunately, this means that Detroit engines and any petrol inboard or outboard engines are a no go for us! We do however have a wealth of knowledge with Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Cummins, CAT, MTU and MAN.
Below is a list of just some of the items checked over during the inspection;
o Fluid levels and conditions | o Fuel system condition |
o Hose and clamps | o Cooling system condition |
o Gearbox and steering | o Electrical Components (inc batteries & cabling) |
o Turbocharger condition | o Trim and tilt |
o Intake and exhaust system | o Propellers, shaft and rudders |
o Engine performance testing | o Diagnostic Checks |
